FOR YOUR EARS ONLY

By Da Rock Critics
FOR YOUR EARS ONLY

Most of you loyal readers know by now that we are hard core rockers, but every once in a while we get the urge to visit our softer side.  On this particular night we decided to go out and see an acoustical duo known as the BAR STOOL SOLDIERS.  We were pleasantly surprised as Marc Thompson and Laurent Bainter aka The Bar Stool Soldiers did a fantastic job despite the lack of amplified electric guitars, keyboards, drums and other electronic toys.  The Bar Stool Soldiers started off the night with Crosby Stills and Nash, Simon and Garfunkel, Neil Young then turned up the wick and showed how really talented they are by doing a great job covering Stone Temple Pilots, Pink Floyd and even Jimi Hendrix “yes Margaret , we said Jimi Hendrix”.  We stayed for the last set and can tell you these two things:  1) we had a good time and 2) our ears were not ringing the next day.  So, if you are in the mood for some quieter entertainment without all the amplification we suggest you see The Bar Stool Soldiers.   ROCK ON!!!

The DAMMIT JONES Band is kind of an eighties hair band, but without all the hair literally!  Comprised of four fun loving highly talented musicians putting what they call the Dammit Jones touch on most every song they performed.  Front man and lead singer, Rick Stey did an excellent job of covering a wide gambit of hit tunes from the Stones to Sublime and a lot in between.  Rick showed his diversity by also being a pretty darn good bass player.  Backing him up on vocals and playing lead guitar was Jeff MacDonald.  This dude can really wail and wowed the crowd with his unique style and wild riffs.  Taking the lead on vocals for a few songs and playing rhythm guitar is Johnny Elsworth who jams like a twenty year old but like us, he can remember when a pack of smokes cost 20 cents.  Tom Purcell handles the drums so loudly we could be in the parking lot and probably still be able to hear him.  Dammit Jones is the perfect example of a bar/party band that you will have a good time seeing.  ROCK ON!!!

Got a comment or want us to review your band?

More rock and less country! What has been you favorite band so far?
I like all Bands! It takes dedication, love of music, and enjoyment in entertaining others to keep bands performing.
It's OK to mix it up a little, just don't go overboard!
